Cinnamon and Chili Hot Chocolate

Cinnamon and Chili Hot Chocolate

31 Jan 2024

5 MINS

10 MINS

Serves 2-4

INGREDIENTS

500ml whole milk
100g dark chocolate, finely chopped
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon chilli powder (adjust to taste)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Whipped cream, for topping (optional)
Ground cinnamon, for garnish (optional)

METHOD

1. Finely chop the dark chocolate.

2. In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it starts to steam. Reduce the heat to low.

3. Add the finely chopped dark chocolate to the milk. Whisk continuously until the chocolate is melted and well combined with the milk.

4. In a separate bowl, mix cocoa powder, sugar, ground cinnamon, chilli powder, and a pinch of salt. Gradually add this mixture to the simmering milk, whisking continuously to avoid lumps.

5. Keep stirring and allow the mixture to simmer for an additional 5-7 minutes until it thickens slightly.

6. Stir in the vanilla extract, ensuring it is well incorporated.

7. Pour the cinnamon and chilli hot chocolate into mugs.

8. Optionally, top each mug with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of ground cinnamon.

9. Serve immediately and enjoy your warming cinnamon and chilli hot chocolate!

HANDY TIP

Adjust the level of chilli powder to suit your spice preference. Start with a small amount and add more if you like it spicier. For an extra indulgent treat, consider adding a splash of your favourite liqueur such as cinnamon schnapps or spiced rum.

To make the hot chocolate extra frothy, use a handheld milk frother or pour it into a blender for a few seconds before serving. This creates a luxurious and creamy texture.
